The early part of the week was a little slower than normal with not a lot of traffic being generated. News reports slowed substantially until more information started to be released on the DigiNotar hack details became more obvious. As the week progresses details included more information on specific countries and industries that appear to have been attacked. The weaknesses in the certificate authority systems have existed for quite some time.
The blogger Fabius Maximus has waded into the cyber war debate which is kind of interesting. He’s not to far off target, but he is definitely following the anti-establishement thread and trying to tease out details that are specific to his case. Unfortunately he isn’t looking at the broader picture, but all that suggests is a mild case of bias that we all have when writing.
The week closes out with the the story that the United States and Australia are creating a mutual cooperation agreement mechanism for fighting in cyber space. An interesting element is that a separate agreement for cyber is needed and that normal treaty/agreements were decided that they didn’t cover cyber.
