If you look at the form and function of technology much of it is built upon the concepts and idea of things that have come before. While watching a young lady read her Kindle next to a person who was reading on an iPad I saw them flipping back and forth. There was obviously some consternation over how the book was laid out and how they were using their devices. The basic premise of pagination was broken and they were having issues flipping back and forth as they were doing their homework. I then watched as the young man reading a magazine grumbled over the way images flowed from one page to another (yes we know about landscape mode and choosing between less and more). He said it made the iPad nearly useless for reading magazines that had pictures.
Before you think I was just sneaking a peak at the young couple I had already engaged them in conversation over which device they liked better (the Kindle or the iPad). I’ll leave their answer for another day, but I realized the forlorn and much missed Microsoft Kindle among other gadgets I have seen would have answered their need much better than the devices they currently have. So in the interest of saying “SEE I TOLD YOU SO…” oh in about a year I offer my version (there are others out there I’m sure).
