One device to rule them all

Motorola quietly killed off the Atrix laptop, entertainment, phone concept that they were building. There are a few reasons they may have had difficulty, but I strongly suggest they were off the mark only a little. The content and communication providers with large built in market could (in my opinion) market a device that would replace the brains of all the other computing platforms. Why would you do this? The first reason is licensing of content. The same device would reflect only one extension of the license. Since much of the content is now being hosted on line and then downloaded this makes even more sense. Another reason is the concept of mobile device management. We have invested much more into telephones as MDM platforms and nearly nothing into laptops. As such they are eclipsing other platforms for risk managed connectivity in a bring your own device (BYOD) world.

Here is the story board I was thinking of when I was considering the concept. Click to make larger.
