The Anti-Library as suggested in Talebs book on Black Swans really interested me. There has been some work on this before by many other bloggers (Zenpundit, Soob, ComingAnarchy, Rethinking Security).
The Ecco story in Talebs book even spawned another blog called the Antilibrary.
I truly love books. I find that there are very few book that have nothing to offer. I read books from many different disciplines sometimes reading bibliographies and buying every book possible. I don’t like libraries much. Not because of anything in particular. I just when surrounded by so many books find it hard to make one or two choices. Then there is the other problem. A deep and abiding secret. I write in books. I put little note things on the edges and comments all over the margins. My books look like they have been attacked by rabid secretaries with sticky note dispensers.
The Anti-Library principle is quite simple. The books we’ve read are past accomplishments, but it is the books we have not read that are the future. As a scholar my tastes revolve around the things I am researching and the things that I am interested in for the time. My work towards my doctorate has me reading a lot of dissertation type materials. Rather than provide a list of books I have installed a new application. We’ll see how long my bandwidth can keep up with it.
For your amusement my anti-library can be found here. I will try to keep it up to date as books move on and off the list.
