I mistakenly bought a @suzukioutboards DF15A outboard with the baseless assumption the three year warranty was actually real. Though halfway through the warranty the lightly used motor with only 7 hours on it was completely solid with salt.
We had bought the motor to run our dinghy to shore but Sydney had cancer and was unsteady with her MS so we used marinas. So it was only run a handful of times (7 hours!)
Suzuki said this salt buildup was owner neglect and refused to warranty any work as I did not flush the motor after all three times I used it. They offered to replace some gaskets. F’em.
Other people have had the same issue. Search the web for Suzuki ‘Suzuki Outboard Salt Buildup Overheating’ for lengthy discussions. The motor was basically trash, parts are in short supply, Suzuki warranty team are idiots, this has cost me thousands of dollars, and I plan to tell everybody. Other than that we rigged our brand new @yamahaoutboards up yesterday and it appears to run like a champ.
