Lift 2007: Sugata Mitra shows how kids teach themselves

Sugata Mitra from India using a window in a wall tests with extensive rigor the idea of whether children can teach themselves with educational technology. This strikes at the heart of our standard thoughts on how education, pedagogy and learning take place and the role of the teacher.

This concept shows that there is more value in discovery and that remoteness is not an issue for learning and in fact can enhance learning. How does this effect our thoughts on distance learning? How does this effect our thoughts on the training versus education issues of distance learning? If anything it shows empirically that group interaction enhances and facilitates the learning process. It is likely that distance learning should not be considered alone learning.
