Vessel Walkthrough

The interior is spacious and bright, with attractive cherry joinery. The three-cabin, two-head layout offers accommodations for up to six people and has a lovely main salon with plenty of entertaining room.

Beginning in the forward guest cabin is a comfortable, center-line, double island berth with Ultimate foam mattresses, making this one of the most relaxing places you could ever sleep. All mattresses were replaced throughout the boat. Four large upper cabinets and two felt-lined vanity cabinets are on either side of the berth. Two large drawers are below the berth, and a hanging locker is on the starboard side. Two fans in the forward cabin and a large hatch provide ventilation. Fixtures are consistent throughout the Eoti. There is an opening-deck hatch and a door leading aft to the head.

The forward head is located aft of the forward guest cabin on the starboard side of the boat and is accessible from both the forward guest cabin and the main salon. It has an electric Dometic Masterflush (freshwater) toilet that is not connected to the sea. Along with the stern toilet, they both empty into the holding tank only (no y-valve to fail) and use fresh water to flush. All of the blackwater system was replaced. The amenities are a wood vanity cabinet, mirror, sink, stainless fixtures, and dark green counter. A deck hatch provides ventilation. A shower with a dedicated seat and curtain keeps this from being a “wet head.”

Across from the forward head on the port side is a third cabin with two twin bunks, Ultimate foam mattresses, a deck hatch, and a large closet. The closet has shelves that can be removed to create a hanging locker.

The comfortable raised main salon has abundant natural light with two opening hatches and eight hull port lights and salon windows at eye level. A folding leaf dining table and a c-shaped leather settee are on the port side with new coverings and foam. All upholstery was redone inside and outside.

There is significant storage under the cushions and behind the settee’s cushions. There is also access to the back side of the electronics from behind the cushions.

To starboard, there are two armchairs that are separated by a cocktail table and liquor cabinet. The armchairs have removable stools that can be used for additional seating around the dining table.

There is generous storage in the main salon with upper cabinets on both sides of the boat and below the settee and within the bases of the armchairs.

A suite of Weems and Plath instruments showing temp/comfort, barometer, and time are on the main bulkhead. A vintage inclinometer finishes the wall treatment.

The functional u-shaped galley offers a safe and secure work area that is convenient to the companionway and open to the main salon. It has a large countertop and plenty of storage. All of the faucets on board were replaced.

There is a double stainless-steel sink with covers, a front-loading Isotherm stainless steel refrigerator, and a top-loading Isotherm freezer. Additionally, there is an Acuva water filtration (UV and charcoal filter) tap for drinking water next to the sink.

Any place that Eoti was found wanting equipment was replaced. As such, there is a NEW Force 10 gimbaled propane stove with oven. This oven is rated much safer than its replaced SMEV version. The Force 10 has a fuel sensor in each burner.

To double down on safety a Xantex propane sniffer with sensor was also installed in the galley.

A recessed microwave that was stock is also in the galley. An integrated exhaust fan is over the stove and oven. There is a built-in trash bin with a USCG placard for disposal rules found next to it. The large solid surface countertop and abundant storage round out the galley.

The navigation station is located on the boat’s port side and has a forward-facing chart table, bookshelf, cabinet, and full-height vented wet locker. The navigation station houses the electric panel, B&G chart plotter display, B&G autopilot controls, B&G instruments, and ICOM VHF radio and SSB radio.

Both the galley and the nav station are open to the raised main salon, which adds to the overall feeling of openness. When sitting at the chart table or working in the galley one has unobstructed views of the main salon.

There is a hallway/passage “cabin” located aft of the nav station that leads to the master stateroom. The hallway/passage cabin has a dedicated child berth above a large built-in sideboard/locker unit that is perfect for storing tools and spare parts. On the inboard side of the passage cabin, there are two large engine room access doors.

The roomy master stateroom has a queen center-line island berth with seating on either side. There is a mirror and vanity located near the foot of the berth, along with storage cabinets and lockers to the port and starboard of the berth. All the upholstery has been replaced to match the saloon. (unlike what is pictured)

The en-suite master stateroom head has dark green counters, stainless fixtures, a sink, a Dometic Masterflush electric freshwater toilet, and a dedicated shower stall. The replacement of the toilet was a specific project with safety in mind. The toilet is not attached to seawater in any way. This allowed for the deletion of three through hulls and meant the sea could not flood the stern and bow toilets. The use of freshwater flush means the sanitation hoses should last much longer. All sanitation hoses were replaced when the toilets were replaced.

In 2022, the shower and head flooring were replaced with starboard to better contain and control water from the shower and sink. This gave a much nicer look to the head.

Refit Program and List

After purchase in 2018, EOTI was refit with a focus on standardizing equipment, upgrading equipment, and ensuring that all systems were in working order. The priority was life and safety systems that would enhance the security and livability of EOTI at sea and at anchor. The second priority was replacing the systems and equipment that were used daily in such a way as to increase the value of EOTI and make EOTI the most comfortable place to eat, sleep, and sail. Finally, a detailed spares and consumables program was initiated. With every purchase of something being replaced, fixed, or repaired a spare procured (in some cases multiple spares).

Electrical Systems

An electronics upgrade and refit were accomplished in 2019 and 2020 (including items covered below). All of the work, including cabinetry work, was done by Just Catamarans in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The goal was to improve Eoti’s capability and safety while traveling. As items that increase safety become available for the B&G system (Forward-looking sonar, Sonar Hub, and Horns), they have been added in 2021 and 2022. A mini refit in 2023 changed the solar out for four 410-watt Sunpower panels for a total of 1640 watts. Sunpower suggests that it will provide about 135AH of charging per panel.

  • 110-volt AC system and 12-volt DC system
  • Four 410-watt Sun Power (2023)
  • Two Victron MPPT 150/50 (2023)
  • Victron 3KW Mutliplus Inverter/Charger (2019)
  • Victron BMV712 (7/2019)
  • Victron Cerbo GX with 7-inch screen (2023)
  • Sterling Battery to Battery charger (start on genset and engine) (2019)
  • Balmar 618 advanced regulator (2023)
  • Balmar Alternator protection device (2023)

  • Batteries (6 Relion 100ah Lithium Ion 2019, 1 generator/engine AGM 2019)
  • 170 Amp Balmar high output alternator with Serpentine Kit (2021)

As part of the navigation and communications electronics upgrade done in 2019 and 2020 a full refit of the shore electrical system was completed too. Old Mastervolt equipment was replaced with Victron and Sterling. A full solar installation was done by Just Catamarans, and they also installed it to the ABYC E-10 standard and within the pending ABYC specification (E-13 standard) using Relion internal BMS Lithium Ion (safe chemistry) batteries. An AGM battery, as per the ABYC specification, is an alternative power source installed in the engine room.

Engine and Mechanical Equipment

The Yanmar 75 HP (4JH2-HTE) engine has been consistently maintained. There is access to both the engine and Fischer-Panda 8 Mini PMS Digital 7.5 KW generator (2010) via two large doors located in the hallway/passage cabin, one large door in the aft head, and a panel located in the master stateroom.

  • Cutlass bearings replaced (2012)
  • Generator – Fisher Panda 7.5 KW with 652 hours (2010)
  • Two automatic and one manual bilge pumps
  • Freshwater engine cooling system
  • Engine blower (2018)
  • Dual Racor water separator/fuel filters (2019)
  • Parker/Racor fuel polisher (2021)
  • Line cutters on shaft (2021)
  • PYI shaft vibration and protection (2021)
  • PYI dripless shaft seal (2022)
  • Vetus 60kg bow thruster (2022)

Engine management and upgrades have included things that make the equipment last longer, work easier, and ensure the drive train is not damaged. For example, Dual Racors are oversized for the engine but allow for vacuum monitoring. Though manual, the Fuel Polisher allows for a secondary method of pumping fuel and keeps fuel systems clean. In 2022, the Vetus bow thruster was upgraded, and the entire system was inspected by Saint Augustine Marine Center staff. In 2021, the Fischer Panda generator was serviced by the Fischer Panda distributor in Norfolk, Virginia, and upgraded to like new.

Sails and Rigging

Easy to sail, with a cruising-friendly cutter rig that allows for convenient sail plan management. All were inspected by CL Rigging in October 2020. This is a push button, most things happen auto-magically, easy to sail rig. The rig specification for shrouds and stays was upgraded, and all of the fittings were also upgraded. This is much better than the brand-new rig.

Rigging

  • Selden aluminum spar
  • 2 Lewmar 2-speed electric primary winches
  • Replaced all running rigging (2019)
  • Replaced all standing rigging (2020)
  • Refurbished Boom Vang (2020)

  • 2 Selden E40E electric winches cabin top (2020)
  • Replaced all rigging blocks with Garhauer series 50 (2020)

The entire sail inventory was updated by North Sails lofts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Annapolis, Maryland. The sail was upgraded to a better material that would work with the new electronic furlers. The sails represent a significant upgrade over the 20-year-old Hood sails. The materials are more robust, more damage-resistant, and are expected to last 20 or more years. The new sails were installed when the rig was put in, giving Eoti a brand-new rig with everything.

General Equipment

All of the general equipment has been upgraded and maintained to the highest level. The Schenker Watermaker was installed by Titan Marine in Fort Lauderdale to the manufacturer’s specifications. This necessitated a haul out at Harbor Town, but the system was inspected and put into use once completed. A note on the sanitation system is warranted. Safety is paramount aboard EOTI; the sanitation system was built to enhance that. There are no Y-valves in this system. There is only one seawater discharge port. The entire system flushes based on fresh water from an internal tank. All waste goes to a holding tank every time. A through hull kept in the off position allows for discharge over the side via a t-pump with a double switch lockout. The heads are not connected directly to the sea, making the chance of flooding or sinking nearly zero from the sanitation system. The deck port for marina pump-outs works normally.
